I love orchids! I had them in my bridal bouquet and I love buying them at Trader Joe’s for my house. They are elegant, beautiful and they make me happy!
However, I am always sad when the last gorgeous flower falls off and I am left with just branches. I often throw out the entire plant when this happens because I can’t stand looking at branches without their blossoms and am at a loss of what else to do.
Luckily my mom, being the creative genius that she is, showed me what to do to keep my flowerless orchid plant looking amazing until it blooms again next year!
Here is her new and improved orchid plant where she tied hydrangea onto the stems using raffia!
Here is a closer look…..
You can pick up a package of raffia at any craft store, such as Michaels Art Supply, or on Amazon. It’s inexpensive and one package lasts a long time!
I get my hydrangea plants from the garden section in Trader Joe’s and my mom is lucky enough to have them growing in her garden outside. However, hydrangea plants are fairly common and can be found at most garden stores. Hydrangea plants also come in LOTS of beautiful colors so you can pick some flowers that match your house, your centerpieces/table runners, or your mood!
My mom also used hydrangea to create a total look for her dining room. She put together this arrangement on her table using her previously flowerless orchid plant, two empty liquor bottles turned vases, a ginger plant (also available at TJ’s or a garden store), a white lantern, and two mirrored place mats.
