I can’t help but think that Disney’s Phineas and Ferb theme song best sums this post up:
“There’s 104 days of summer vacation
And school comes along just to end it
So the annual problem for our generation
Is finding a good way to spend it
Like maybe… “
Summer starts this week in our house after my daughter graduates from Preschool on Thursday. I have always looked forward to having a family of my own and enjoying long Summer days barbecuing and watching my kids playing outside, riding bikes and chasing each other.
To get ready for fun-filled summer, I created our very first family Summer Bucket List, so that we can always have a quick reference of activities to look forward to all Summer long. I pulled out the markers and started writing down fun things to do in LA. The list can go on and on, but as it is our family’s list is already covering a full wall in our tiny kitchen. My kids were so excited when I read through the list of all the things we can do over Summer break. Having it posted in our most common area, the kitchen, makes for a fun daily reminder and conversation starter.
Try it out this year with your family. You can let your older kids create it or your younger ones can help to check off the boxes when you finish an activity. Throughout the next few weeks I plan to take lots of photos and at the end of Summer put together a Summer 2012 book. What’s on your Summer Bucket List?

Having older kids, that list made me wistful. Our list would look more like, hang our with friends, text friends, stay on phone for hours with friends, hang out with friends.
OTOH my tween and teen do get to go on a pretty super vacation this summer, and since we’ll be gone for a while, it’s fine for them to have their down time with their school buddies.

It’s like you somehow read my mind…In the corner of our kitchen we have a list called “Summer Bucket List” too. I worked on it with my kids a few days ago. We’ve got some of the local standbys in there, and also Seattle, Pennsylvania, Hawaii…I think we’re going to need a few more weeks of summer!

This is such a cute idea. We have a list but it’s in a notebook – having it posted on the fridge would be good because it would be right in our faces and remind us to DO stuff.
And I totally think about the Phineas and Ferb song all the time when thinking of summer, too!

I am exhausted just looking at that list. My kiddos are all grown, my list says only “Take a nap”

I hope you don’t mind, but I’m stealing all of yours. My brain is losing too many cells in peri-menopause to come up with my own. xo

Oh, what fun! We have a Summer Bucket list too, but I hadn’t thought of creating a list to display and letting the kids check off boxes. So stealing that idea right now…
