October has arrived and you will be seeing lots of PINK because this is the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Kimberly and I are supporters of the Susan G. Komen Foundation and Kimberly has even walked 60 miles to help find a cure and support the amazing women fighting this deadly disease.
Sadly, our dear friend Jennifer of JLynn Jewelry lost her cousin, Karen, to cancer this past August.
Karen’s Inspiring Story
Karen’s life journey began August 23, 1972. God’s grace took her home on August 18, 2012 relieving her of her courageous 3-year battle with cancer. She was blessed with a beautiful daughter Chelsea Silva from her first marriage and the two enjoyed going to the beach and their yearly passes to Disneyland while living in California. In 2004, Karen and Chelsea returned to their home state of Utah, where Karen enjoyed spending time with her friends and family as well as traveling and her job in retail management. On August 21, 2009, she married Luis Ortiz, the love of her life. Exactly one month later she was diagnosed with breast cancer and a day later was told she was also pregnant. While pregnant she underwent a mastectomy and chemo treatment but she remained positive and strong and Joshua was born healthy on May 5, 2010. She was diagnosed with brain cancer in January 2012.
Karen will be dearly missed by her many friends and family but her positive attitude and faith throughout this whole ordeal has inspired many.

Thanks Kristal for your support! I hope that my cousin’s story encourages all women to be proactive, see their doctors every year and do their own monthly breast exams. I can not express to everyone how important that is.
