Halloween celebrations are filled with all types of spooktacular sweets and treats . I always admired the spirited and creative cupcakes I saw online and in magazines that really captured the essence of the festivities. A few years ago I challenged myself to give this crafty cupcake decorating a whirl and since then it has been an annual tradition for me. I enjoy getting my kitchen sticky and messy and creating Halloween-themed cupcakes to share with my family and friends!
Spider Webs
Spider web cupcakes are creepy and take just minutes to decorate.
Here’s what you’ll need for your decorations:
- Black icing (in a tube)
- White frosting
- A toothpick
*You can obviously use any color combination that excites you!
Directions:
- Frost cooled cupcakes
- With black icing, draw concentric circles on each cupcake
- Starting at the center of the cupcake, drag the tip of the toothpick towards the outside of the cupcake. Repeat to create a web.
- Consider adding a spider ring in the center to add a little something special. (not pictured)
RIP Tombstones
The RIP Tombstone cupcakes are my favorites! They take a little more skill, but they are definitely doable and worth the extra effort!
What you’ll need:
- Milano cookies
- White frosting
- Coconut flakes
- Green food coloring
- A sharp knife
- Black icing (in a tube)
- Frost cooled cupcakes in white frosting.
- Cut one side of the Milano cookies with a sharp knife to make a point.
- Use black icing to write “RIP.”
- Put coconut flakes in a bowl. Add green food coloring until coconut flakes are green.
- Dip the frosted cupcakes into the green coconut flakes. *If you do not want to use coconut flakes, simply dye your white icing green. This will create a similar effect.
- Use a sharp knife to create a small slit in the top of the cupcake. Insert the tombstone into the slit.
Dirt and Worms
What you’ll need:
- Crushed Oreo cookies (scrape off the white center before crushing them)
- Gummy worms (or sour gummy worms if you like those better)
- Chocolate frosting
- Frost cooled cupcakes in chocolate frosting.
- Dip cupcakes in crushed Oreos.
- Cut worms so that 3/4 of the worm remains.
- Use a knife to make a small hole in your cupcake.
- Insert the worm into the hole.
Bloodshot Eyeballs
What you’ll need:
- White frosting
- Red icing (in a tube)
- Gummy eyeballs (I bought mine online from Retro Candy)
- Frost cooled cupcakes in white frosting.
- Place gummy eyeball in the center of the cupcake.
- Use red icing to create bloodshot lines.
