It seems like this month flew by! Can you believe today is Halloween day!? Are you ready for trick-or-treating and the sugar highs?
Over the years my family has developed several Halloween traditions that make this holiday even that much more memorable for us. Aside from enjoying an evening filled with of costumes, pumpkin carving, trickery, chili, sweets, and fun, we also enjoy hosting a small Halloween gathering with family and friends the weekend before Halloween. We love this tradition because it is often hard to coordinate trick-or-treating with everyone on Halloween night. This way we get a chance to celebrate the holiday together…and who doesn’t love one more chance to wear their costume?!
Some of our favorite aspects of our annual Halloween party are:
- A delicious potluck-style meal including Halloween Chili!
- Halloween cupcakes — check out the pictures of my new Furry Spider Halloween cupcakes below!
- Goofy Halloween games – Pin the tail on the ghost, Halloween candy hunt, mummy wrap
- Halloween crafts
This year in addition to our usual Halloween hooplah, we decided to invite Cola Smith, the world’s most talented face painter to come and paint the children’s faces. I met Cola many years ago when I was a classroom teacher and Cola was our school’s art teacher. We have kept in touch over the years and I was so thrilled when she said she was available to come to our party this year. She really is a truly beautiful artist and unlike any face painter I have ever seen. She even came to the party all dolled up in her costume, which of course the kids LOVED! If you live in the LA area and you are looking for a face painter or henna artist for your next party, be sure to check out Cola’s website. She is sure to be a huge hit!

Have a safe and happy Halloween!!
